EXPLORATION STARTS WITH FINDING OIL IN THE MIND

GEOLOGY is a critical factor in finding oil is evidenced by Wallace Pratt when he worked as a geologist for the first time in oil company “Humble Oil” in United States in 1918. At that time and years earlier exploration or oil-lookups are done without geological or scientific method whatsoever. If oil found then it’s just accidental or because there is a oil sheep on the surface. Pratt then proposed to the company where she worked to recruit the other geologist. Then Pratt and his colleagues conducted a study of geology during the past two years from 1918 to 1919, and in 1920 Mexia Field virtue a large oil field in East Texas discovered.

In 1922 there is a geophysical experiment done by one company and successfully found oil and gas traps. Pratt also proposed to his company to form geophysical division. And Humble Oil in 1922 to form the geophysical division. Since then, oil exploration one sense with geological and geophysical work (G&G). Then, in the 1990s other “G” i.e. geochemistry integrated in the concept of petroleum system. Since then, oil and gas exploration work with three concepts as “3G” i.e. geology, geochemistry, and geophysics. An exploration well is a game of the mind, mental game. Everything begins from geology. The geologist with the power of his mind, with his basic instinct that has always looked at everything in time and space, 3 dimensional, historically, evolutif and Reconstructive idea, creative minds about where the oil might formed, as to where he might flow, and where he might be trapped. He fantasized, thinking, analyzing with all science with the art of thinking developed, with experience and umpteen hours flown. Then the geophysicist and geochemist embody, control, attest to the creative mind of this geologist specializing in detail to superdetail who belonged to the geophysical sciences and geochemistry.

Exploration of the past, at the time of Wallace Pratt, played with the mind, because Pratt says the magic words that many people cited, “Oil is firstly found in the minds of men”-Wallace Pratt (1943). Any oil and gas exploration now is still about the game of mind, let me see the latest magazine cover AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) Nov. 2014, written in the magazine cover titled “the Explorer Finding Oil in the Mind-New Ideas Offer New Possibilities”

Oil exploration began with the exploration of the mind and mentality, the geologist should always sharpening and making creative mind. Oil and/or gas for the future, or not, depending for the first time to mind the petroleum geologist. If the mind of this dipasung condition, geologist or the geologist memasung her mind yourself, don’t expect oil and/or gas there will create the future

GEOLOGI adalah faktor penting dalam menemukan minyak dibuktikan oleh Wallace Pratt ketika ia bekerja sebagai geologist pertama untuk sebuah perusahaan minyak Humble Oil di Amerika Serikat pada tahun 1918. Saat itu dan tahun-tahun sebelumnya eksplorasi atau pencarian minyak dilakukan tanpa geologi atau metode ilmiah apa pun. Kalau menemukan minyak ya kebetulan saja, atau karena ada rembesannya di permukaan. Pratt kemudian mengusulkan ke perusahaan tempatnya bekerja untuk merekrut para geologist lain. Lalu Pratt dan koleganya melakukan penelitian geologi selama dua tahun, 1918-1919, dan pada tahun 1920 ditemukanlah Lapangan Mexia, lapangan minyak yang besar di Texas Timur.

Tahun 1922 ada eksperimen geofisika dilakukan oleh satu perusahaan dan sukses menemukan perangkap migas. Pratt juga mengusulkan ke perusahaannya untuk membentuk divisi geofisika. Dan pada tahun 1922 Humble Oil membentuk divisi geofisika tersebut. Sejak itu, eksplorasi minyak satu pengertian dengan pekerjaan geologi dan geofisika ( G&G).

Kemudian, pada tahun 1990-an ketika konsep dan teori petroleum system analysis terintegrasi, masuklah “G” yang lain, yaitu geokimia. Maka pekerjaan eksplorasi migas adalah pekerjaan “3G” -geologi + geofisika + geokimia.

Eksplorasi juga adalah permainan pikiran, permainan mental. Semuanya bermula dari geologi. Para geologist dengan kekuatan pikirannya, dengan basic instinct-nya yang selalu memandang segala sesuatu secara ruang dan waktu, 3 dimensi, historis, evolutif, dan rekonstruktif mempunyai idea, pikiran kreatif tentang di mana minyak mungkin dibentuk, ke mana ia mungkin mengalir, dan di mana ia mungkin diperangkap. Ia berkhayal, melamun, berpikir, menganalisis dengan semua sains yang dipunyainya, dengan seni berpikir yang dikembangkannya, dengan pengalaman dan sekian jam terbangnya. Lalu para geophysicist dan para geochemist mewujudkan, mengontrol, membuktikan pikiran kreatif para geologist ini dengan spesialisasi detail sampai superdetail yang dipunyai ilmu-ilmu geofisika dan geokimia.

Eksplorasi masa lalu, pada zaman Wallace Pratt, bermain dengan pikiran, sebab Pratt mengatakan kata-kata ajaibnya yang banyak dikutip orang, “Oil is firstly found in the minds of men” – Wallace Pratt (1943). Kini pun eksplorasi migas adalah masih tentang permainan pikiran, coba lihat cover majalah terbaru AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) edisi November 2014, ditulis di cover majalah berjudul Explorer itu, “Finding Oil in the Mind -New Ideas Offer New Possibilities”.

Karena eksplorasi bermula dengan permainan pikiran, perminan mental, hendaknya para geologist selalu mengasah, menajamkan, membuat kreatif pikirannya. Minyak dan/atau gas untuk masa depan, ada atau tidak, bergantung untuk pertama kalinya kepada pikiran para petroleum geologist. Kalau pikiran para geologist ini dipasung kondisi, atau para geologist memasung pikirannya sendiri, jangan berharap minyak dan/ atau gas akan ada buat masa depan!***
